Introduction
TheUpsideSpace is a curator-led NFT marketplace that features art and artists from Southeast Asia, South Asia, and the Middle East. The platform’s mission is to create a creative ecosystem for art enthusiasts, collectors, artists, and new audiences.
As the sole designer responsible for bringing this concept to life, I undertook the challenge of creating an engaging and user-friendly platform from scratch.
The result is a user-centric, visually appealing, and technologically advanced platform that celebrates the diverse world of art — balancing the artistic essence of the platform with the robust functionality required of a successful NFT marketplace.
Design Goals
Establish a distinctive brand identity that reflects the platform’s fusion of traditional and new-media art while resonating with both artists and collectors.
Create an intuitive, smooth experience for a platform that serves as an Online Art Lab, Creator Studio, and Inclusive Community — catering to diverse user needs.
Integrate a secure, user-friendly NFT marketplace for rare collectibles — striking a balance between simplicity and robust functionality.
Design Process
Conducted extensive research into the art market, NFT platforms, and community-driven spaces like OpenSea and Crypto.com. Drawing from both traditional art galleries and cutting-edge tech platforms, I identified the elements that would shape the visual language.
Created wireframes to outline the structure, then moved to high-fidelity, interactive prototypes to simulate the user journey — enabling early testing and refinement.
Established continuous feedback loops with artists, collectors, and the development team, refining the design so it met the needs of both creators and consumers.
Collaborated closely with developers and blockchain experts to design a seamless, transparent process for artists to tokenize their work and for collectors to make purchases.
Design Solutions
The solutions blend modern minimalism with vibrant artistic expression — a system that feels like a gallery while functioning like a robust marketplace.
A harmonious blend of modern minimalism and vibrant artistic expression. The color palette and typography were carefully chosen to evoke creativity while maintaining readability and accessibility — anchored by the Tobias and Matter typefaces.
To foster inclusivity and collaboration, I implemented artist profiles, discussion forums, and collaborative projects. The design encourages artists to connect, share ideas, and build a supportive community within TheUpsideSpace.
The NFT cards communicate a lot at a glance — normal cards, launch timers for upcoming drops, and multi-edition states revealed on hover.
The marketplace integrates seamlessly with the overall design, providing a secure environment for buying and selling rare collectibles — with transparent pricing, detailed artwork information, and a straightforward tokenization process.
Marketplace Mechanics
Used when an NFT exists in a single quantity only.
Refers to a situation where an NFT exists in multiple copies, and various owners are selling them at different prices.
Click on “Sell”.
Select the quantity and put it on sale.
Cancel the sale if needed.
Clicking the cancel button lets us cancel it — with a ��Confirm to cancel” safeguard.
Results & Impact
TheUpsideSpace successfully launched as an inclusive platform, connecting traditional visual artists, new-media artists, and collectors. The NFT marketplace has gained traction, and the community is actively participating in discussions, collaborations, and art exploration.
